City Mall Alajuela
On steep slopes, daylight pours in through glass
In the fastest-growing sector of metropolitan San Jose, a new gathering space stands tall: City Mall Alajuela, home to the world’s most trend setting fashion shops and entertainment experts. In late 2015, this two million plus square foot project officially opened, launching three levels of shopping and a host of restaurants, all visible from the main plaza through full glass walls.
Located just off the busy Francisco J Orlich Freeway on steep slopes, the City Mall called for the construction of a dedicated exit ramp and tunnel to provide direct access to the site itself. And in turn, this investment in infrastructure helped inspire a broader expansion of the freeway itself, delivering more guests to a place where they can now interact, shop and experience.
