It’s a family affair.
It’s not just another fast food joint. Wahlburgers dishes up hearty Boston-style burgers, sauces made from scratch and “adult frappes” served from a full-sized bar. All served in a warm, comfortable space that invites you to stay awhile, like you’re family. Which is kind of the point: the Wahlburgers story is rooted in family tradition. An ambitious chef, his two famous brothers (yes, those Wahlbergs) and their hospitality-trained mother combined their skills to create a burger brand with heart. And, with nearly 30 locations in the US and Canada, the chain is quickly gaining momentum.
Last year, grocery brand Hy-Vee partnered with Wahlburgers to bring their New England cuisine to the Midwest. They chose the Mall of America for their first location. Hy-Vee, a current RSP client, hired us to implement the restaurant’s contemporary Boston-style design into the mall’s second-floor dining area. Our team’s extensive knowledge of restaurant brands, the quick-service industry and the mall itself made us the right choice for this project. The challenge was reimagining the existing space and translating the concept into the specified square footage. The interior walls had to be torn down and redesigned to make way for a full bar, seating, kitchen, storage and bathrooms – all of which was completed on-time and on-budget.
The Mall of America restaurant opened in May 2018. A second location in West Des Moines, IA is opening later this year, with more planned in the future.
