SunOpta Global Headquarters
Eco-Powered Innovation
SunOpta is known for pioneering organic, plant-based products. When the rapidly growing company needed a new global headquarters, they turned to RSP to design a sustainable, eco-friendly workplace that aligns with their values and accelerates the organization’s ability to innovate.
The 65,000 square foot headquarters fosters collaboration and embodies SunOpta’s mission of positively impacting people and planet. The space features a pilot plant and will expand SunOpta’s co-manufacturing, private label, ingredient and branded product capabilities. The new headquarters is also home to a research and development center eight times the size of its previous location—an indication of their commitment to innovation and new ideas.
The sustainably designed workplace is a key investment in achieving SunOpta’s strategic business and growth goals, including doubling their plant-based business by 2025. RSP worked with Greiner Construction to bring SunOpta’s passion for sustainability to life throughout the collaborative space. The building embodies a true green sensibility—from hundreds of plantings and a living plant wall to rapidly renewable materials and high-efficiency fixtures. Some 36,000 square feet of solar panels generate more than 30% of the space’s electricity demand.
As SunOpta CEO Joe Ennen says, “Collaboration and innovation go hand in hand. While other companies are downsizing their office spaces, SunOpta is upsizing to achieve our growth ambitions by encouraging problem solving and innovation in person. This new space combined with our flexible approach to hybrid working brings us together to sustain innovation.”
