Mortenson Arizona Headquarters
A Workplace Built on Connections
Once plans were underway on the RSP-designed Beam on Farmer, the first Cross-Laminated Timber Class-A office building in Arizona, owner and developer Mortenson saw the ideal opportunity to enhance their own office environment. The construction company’s new Arizona headquarters now sits on the ground floor of The Beam. RSP built on the existing relationship by designing the new office interior.
The 15,054-SF office seamlessly connects to The Beam’s main lobby, as well as the building’s shared conference room, fitness center and coffee shop. An inviting reception sets the tone— bold branding, comfortable seating, and floor-to-ceiling windows reflect the company’s dynamic, inclusive culture. Designed to support a variety of functions, the office features a large board room, smaller collaboration areas, and a mix of open and private offices. The multipurpose work café serves as a flexible breakroom and is perfect for team celebrations, watching Arizona sports, or all-staff meetings.
The overall design of the office is a celebration of craftsmanship, showcasing the building’s signature element—the mass timber structure. Interior walls stop shy of the prominent beams, and the wall-mounted lighting maintains the streamlined look of the exposed wood ceiling. Other striking design details give the office warmth and character, like the cast-in-place concrete island countertop in the work café, which was designed and installed by the Mortenson craft team.
Full-height glass draws natural light deep into the workspace and a patio just off the work café brings the outdoors into the larger workplace. Its ground floor location links the kinetic energy of the street to the office, creating a vibrant atmosphere that feels like an authentic part of its context.
The interior branding, a collaboration between RSP and Mortenson, celebrates Arizona’s unique environment and landscape. Gold shovels celebrating major local projects adorn the entry hallway, acting as a key talking point for office tours and instilling the firm’s history in the Grand Canyon State. Steel wayfinding and branding accents speak to the construction materials that are foundational to the firm’s work.
Mortenson’s Tempe office represents a new chapter for the company in Arizona and an ongoing relationship with RSP. The workplace, which is both modern and timeless, provides the perfect atmosphere for Mortenson to continue delivering projects that resonate with their clients and communities and celebrate the mastery of their craft.
