Marshfield Clinic Cancer Center
Wellness, renewal and healing
Our goal was to design a building for the end-user: the patients, their families and the healthcare professionals working at Marshfield Clinic Cancer Center. The new addition and remodel of the existing Center was focused on creating a space for wellness, renewal and healing. The design team was challenged to work with an aggressive schedule in order to accommodate the existing cancer treatment that was still in operation. There was a strong effort to minimize impact on operations so patients were not disrupted.
From exam rooms and offices to communal waiting rooms and exterior gardens, the entire design was centered around upgrading the additional space with a new special identity while seamlessly connecting it to the existing building. RSP provided a “healing garden” for patients and staff as a retreat from the monotony of clinic routine. Stained glass, window art, water features and indoor greenery are found throughout the Center to increase wellness. These features provide patients with a calming and attractive environment as they undergo treatment. In addition, a patient library offers a source of information on how to manage their lives with cancer, as a chapel provides a place of respite for all.
