Grand Hyatt Scottsdale Resort and Spa
New Energy for an Old Friend.
The reimagined Grand Hyatt Scottsdale Resort and Spa transforms a circa 1980’s iconic property at Gainey Ranch into Arizona’s first Grand Hyatt. RSP designed the reinvigorated property to attract a new type of traveler, one who values storytelling and the flexibility of indoor-outdoor living as much as square footage or a five-fixture bathroom. The upgrade goes beyond aesthetics with a focus on experience, comfort, and flexibility.
Working in a collaborative of hospitality pros that includes Wimberly Interiors and EXP Engineering, as well as Balfour Beatty Construction, RSP served as architect of record for the comprehensive upgrade. The design approach maintains the H-shaped configuration of the hotel, and the team worked diligently to strategically phase the upgrades so the property remained operational throughout the renovation while minimizing impact to the guest experience.
The variety of F&B options takes the Grand Hyatt from a sought-after hotel to a true community amenity. Hyatt partnered with celebrity chef Richard Blais, the first winner of Bravo’s “Top Chef: All-Stars,” to conceptualize and oversee all restaurant concepts on site. Throughout the design, each project team member contributed to drive an outstanding outcome. The new lobby, for example, was designed as a guest hub, featuring a variety of spaces and uses that keep it energized from morning to night.
The signature lounge and restaurant are now fully set apart from the lobby when needed, a measure of flexibility important to the operations team. Additionally, the restaurant features outdoor seating, so RSP reconfigured an existing but updated trellis to continue the ceiling pattern from the interior into the exterior, helping to blur the line between indoors and outdoors.
Overall, the renovation covered all 496 guestrooms and casitas, food and beverage outlets, and key public areas. It was a comprehensive effort, and the results—and bookings—speak for themselves.
