Hundreds of lab techs used to work in up to 12 labs scattered across Allina Hospital’s Minneapolis campus. Now they work in one location – a 75,000SF central lab that handles a range of medical testing. Blood work. Microbiology cultures. Pathology biopsies. All efficiently and safely tested in a flexible, sustainable and centrally-located space. We applied Lean Six Sigma principals and the Green Guide for Healthcare when designing the space. The result is a lab so effective, the cost per test has decreased. With day-lit break areas and flexible benching stations, employees report feeling healthier and happier in the new space.
