Fort Sam Houston Installation Management Command (IMCOM)
The Army's home
The Installation Management Command (IMCOM) Group handles the day-to-day operations of U.S. Army installations around the world. These installations provide many of the same types of services expected in any community: fire, police, education, housing, child care, etc. Along with the services, IMCOM also manages a workforce of 54K individuals, 973M SF of building space and nearly 60K miles of roads, to name a few.
The goal: through an easy, organized process, create a new administration facility with state-of-the-art security and communications features. On a site originally surrounded by four access roads, gated checkpoints and restricted access were designed to ensure tight security. The new exterior compliments the Spanish Colonial Revival style of the neighboring historic buildings.
On the interior, functionality and organization was key within 168,000 SF headquarters, housing 800+ logistics and emergency operations personnel. The Emergency Operations Center provides a secure area with Secret Internet Protocol Router Network, controlled entrance vestibules and tiered seating for mission-critical meetings. The building achieved LEED Silver certification, underlining Fort Sam Houston’s commitment to the environment.
“RSP did an excellent job on this large, complex project. They were diligent, conscientious, cooperative, technically superior and eager to satisfy our customers (USACE and IMCOM) as well as us, their client,” – Craig Southorn, VP, Mortenson Construction.
