Transparency in Healthcare
When physicians from a variety of backgrounds decided to create TRIA, their goal was to reinvent the way healthcare works by re-establishing the interactions between doctors and patients. They envisioned a patient-centric environment. Twelve years and two locations later, TRIA East in Woodbury opens in summer 2017, setting new standards in sports medicine.
Designed by RSP, the goal of the project was to reinforce patient-centric care through transparency. A three-story glass atrium greets visitors not only to the clinic but also to the 100-acre mixed-use CityPlace lifestyle center, master planned by RSP. TRIA East is located in the northeast corner of the development, visible to traffic on a busy interstate. Our team leveraged the prime location by framing thoughtful views on all sides of the clinic. The glass atrium wraps around the front of the building, accented by curtain wall, metal panels and stone. Inside, transparency is evident with a continuation of glass lining the waiting areas and demarking exam rooms and team spaces. The result eases patient anxiety while increasing staff efficiencies. While the first floor is dedicated to diagnostics, the second floor is for rehabilitation. An ambulatory/surgery center is located on the third floor. The entire building is designed to be flexible, supporting TRIA’s innovative approach.
Simple, neutral finishes are used throughout to provide a sense of classic, timelessness while providing a clean canvas for future art installations or video programs. Special design moments include a second floor physical therapy room where recovering athletes can test their progress in a safe, closely monitored environment. The space features retractable astro turf and a pitching mound to allow athletes to practice throwing, kicking or hitting while therapists monitor movement.
