A catalyst for innovation.
The Discovery Square Phase 1 Building stems from a monumental vision — one that embodies the very nature of discovery. This new urban life science hub will be a catalyst for innovation, connecting Mayo Clinic experts with industry-leading researchers, entrepreneurs and start-ups. Together, they will ask questions. Solve problems. And uncover life-changing breakthroughs.
The 60,000 SF Phase 1 Building is at the epicenter of Discovery Square, one of six districts in Rochester’s Destination Medical Center plan. It is being designed by RSP and HOK, with Mortenson as the owner and developer, to support biomedical, research, education, and technology innovation.
The goal is to create a vibrant innovator community that’s not limited to research alone. A variety of flexible research and office spaces, including lab facilities designed specifically for Mayo Clinic, ensure a cross-pollinated environment. And the building’s proximity to Mayo will allow for accelerated connections between researcher and patient, encouraging better and faster care.
Celebrating science and putting it on display, the highly visible and active “Co-Lab Space” on the ground floor intertwines hospitality and science, welcoming tenants, stakeholders and the public to collaborate in a state-of-the-art environment. Throughout the site, pedestrian-friendly landscaping and outdoor gathering spaces form a vibrant live-work-play setting. This flexible and forward-looking design approach will transform Discovery Square into a local landmark, ensuring its success for years to come.
Groundbreaking is planned for late 2017, with an estimated completion date of 2019.
